History[]
Carnival mentalist Jason Wyngarde was born with the mutant power of psychic illusion-casting. Often using it to make himself appear as more robust and virile than he truly is, Wyngarde joined Magneto's Brotherhood of Mutants as the villain Mastermind. During a stint as a member of the Hellfire Club, Mastermind used his abilities to manipulate the Phoenix, causing her transformation into Dark Phoenix.
